YFS Boys' Health Advocacy Program

South Dakota

The environmental science project at YFS Boys’ Health Advocacy Program is introducing up to 80 low-income, underserved boys and young men per year to outdoor education, environmental science, and conservation. The boys’ increased understanding of these topics is encouraging their awareness of the natural world, promoting their interest in science, and fostering their concern for sustainability in and beyond our Rapid City community. The anticipated long term outcome of the project is that the boys will learn a life-long respect for nature and the outdoors, find enjoyment in outdoor recreation, learn to be more active, and continue to pursue outdoor activities on their own, as well as obtaining improved physical and mental health.
